Moving abroad is a huge project, which requires lots of time for planning, organization and preparation. During this process, there are a few things that can be easily forgotten – especially when it is your first international relocation. The best thing to start with is to create a checklist about every detail you have to take care of, in order to have the smoothest move possible. Finding the best international moving company in Dubai/ Abu Dhabi is one of the most important steps, because they will be able to guide you through the required paperwork and take some points off your checklist. However, there are numerous things you have to take care of yourself, make sure to also include these 4 things in your checklist – no matter how simple they seem – these are things that are most likely to be forgotten.

1. Background Information:

There is nothing more embarrassing, than arriving in the country you are going to live in for the coming years – or even for the rest of your life – and behaving in an inappropriate way, due to a lack of knowledge about its history, culture and traditions. So take your time to find out about these points before your move, and inform the rest of the family about the results of your research.

2. Validity of the Passports:

The passport is the most important document for your international relocation, so check every family member’s passport for its expiration date ahead of time. Passports have to be valid for at least six more months for international travels. This point should actually go without saying, but unfortunately it is not a rarity that people realize too late, that their passports either expired already, or are valid for less than six months.

3. Remember Spare Keys and Other Valuables:

Almost all of us give spare keys to neighbours, family members or friends, in case of an emergency and someone needs to enter the apartment/ house while we are too far away – or simply for the not very unlikely case that we lock ourselves out. Maybe it is an additional remote control for the garage door instead of a spare key – either way, these kind of things have to be given back to the landlord when you move out. Collect all spare keys and spare remotes from family and friends before moving day, otherwise you will have an extra burden on a day, that is stressful enough anyways.

4. Give Back Borrowed Items:

When you pack all your possessions yourself, you will probably find a few things, that you borrowed from a friend, the public library or a colleague – and totally forgot to give back to them. You will put them to the side and give them back to their owners as soon as possible. But what if you are not the only one packing? Maybe your children, your wife/ husband or the international movers do not know that this certain item should not be packed and moved. So before you start packing, try to think about everything you have borrowed from others and if you have returned it already. If there is something you are not sure about, ask the person you got it from, look for it and give it back – you would want others to do the same if it was about your belongings, wouldn’t you?
