Accessible by road, they are undoubtedly the largest caves in Sri Lanka and also house the Golden Temple Museum is enough to make your trip worthwhile. With dated paintings and statues of ancient Buddhist that clearly illustrate the life of Buddha, these attractions will keep you awed.

They are purported to have been the work of monks who carved them with their hands many centuries ago. With over 150 statues in over 5 caves to be sampled, you will be occupied as you delve into this religion in a historic way. Pilgrims are also common here as they come to pay homage to their high priests temple. A monastery for monks is still housed in one of the caves. Dambulla International Cricket Stadium

Located Dambulla near the rocks, this stadium is famed for the international cricket matches it hosts. It seats around 30,000 people and if you are into cricket can catch a match at this unique venue. Fixtures are available online thus you can get tickets to enjoy the sport during your vacation.


Dambulla caves can keep you enthralled to the point of forgetting to take a good look around you. To amend this, after the tour of the museum, take a pause at the stairs and take a look around you. From this vantage point, you can see the panoramic landscape of the plains stretching before you.
