Efficiency is the battle cry of the 21st century. As a people, we’re always in a hurry to get everything done. For the busybody, anything which does not serve a function should not be there in the first place. Another reason for why the modern man and woman desires function more than form is the fact that time isn’t the only thing which is held in scarcity nowadays, so is space.

If resonate with this dilemma and have a scarcity of space in your own home, below are some tricks that can help you maximize a small space and design a house with clear purpose:

Four Ways To Decorate With A Purpose

1. Have a focal wall.

The advantage of having a large home is that you can always retreat to some hidden room in order to get away from the world and step into another one. For smaller homes, you don’t have this kind of luxury of space. However, this does not mean that you cannot transport yourself into another place no matter how small your home is. A focal wall is a wonderful way to do just that.

Pick out wallpaper with some bold design and choose a wall in your home to apply it. You can choose a wall which is opposite to your entryway or one which is opposite the dining table. With this focal wall, you’ll have something interesting to fix your eyes on that will transport you to a different place even if you’re just in your tiny apartment.

2. Pick out pieces of furniture which serve different purposes.

Since you have to contend with very constrained spaces, then you’d have to maximize every bit of space you have. This means picking out pieces of furniture which serve dual purposes. Experts from Nick Scali furniture  offers great advise.

Some of the flexible pieces of furniture which you can use to decorate your home wiill include a dining table with leaf extensions, a bench or an ottoman that has built-in storage, a daybed which transforms into a bed for guests and a bar cart that can be used to hold mail or keys if you do not have any parties just yet.

3. Choose just one color palette.

If you have a flat which allows you to view one end to another without even standing, then you ought to pick out walls with the same color palette in order to give an impression that you have a large space, unified space. You can always pepper in an accent color every here and there to make it your space more interesting but by following a very consistent color palette, you can give an illusion of a large space instead of a crammed one.

4. Illustrate depth using mirrors.

If you suffer from very limited space, then you can always turn to the go-to trick for providing depth – using mirrors in order to widen and open up a room. You can place mirrors along the entryway or above a mantel and the reflection from these mirrors will give an impression that you have a much larger room than you really do.
