It doesn’t take rocket science to succeed in having a great looking lawn during summer. You just need to exert extra effort during spring.

Investing time and resources will ensure that your lawn will be resistant to the effects of pests, weeds, sun, and heavy foot traffic. Here are some tips on how to get your lawn ready for summer.

Get Your Lawn Ready For Summer

Aerate your Lawn Properly

Doing this will encourage the healthy growth of your lawn’s root system. It enables the grass to breathe while also allowing the nutrients, water, and oxygen to reach the root system more efficiently. It is highly recommended that you do this during the early stages of spring, every 1 to 3 years. You may need to do this more frequently if you expect to have high foot traffic on your lawn.

Eliminate the Thatch

The thatch consists of decaying plant matter that builds up on the ground. Remove this by briskly raking it. A layer of thatch is at least 1.3cms in depth. This can prevent the sun’s rays and water from reaching the grass and roots. This should be done together with aeration.

Fertilize your Lawn

Don’t fertilize your lawn just for the sake of doing it. Schedule the fertilization of your lawn during spring. However, don’t do this right before the temperatures reach their highest point in summer or during the rainy season in tropical areas. Ask a professional to know which fertilizer is most suitable to the type of grass you have.

Make Sure that your Lawn is Properly Watered

Always take note of the roots of the grass when watering your lawn. Deep watering during early morning or night is encouraged. This means that the water should reach at least 2.5cms every week during the growing phase. With this technique, the formation of strong and deep roots is promoted.

Mow your Lawn Regularly

Mow your lawn frequently, and use a different pattern every time. Don’t cut more than 1/3 of the grass. Make sure that the blades of the mower you use are always sharp.

Mowing your lawn regularly during spring will strengthen the roots. In this way, the plants will become sturdy. Increase the cutting height of the mower during summer so that the grass grows longer and provides better shade to the soil. This also helps retain moisture effectively.

Prepare the Right Tools for a Great Looking Lawn on Summer

As long as you prepare early, you won’t have any problem in taking care of your lawn for summer. Get high quality mowers, rakes and watering tools from a reliable company to get you started.
