It is quite a daunting task to keep your sanitary areas and living spaces absolutely spic and span. It is important to tidy up, on a daily basis and also schedule bigger cleaning days, such as cleaning the cupboards, windows, curtains and so on. However, using green products, such as salt, vinegar along with lemon juice and baking soda, can make all these tasks much easier on you as well as on the environment.

Cleaning Windows:

You can forget about cleaners that use ammonia and start cleaning your windows the green way using lemon juice. Mix four tablespoons of lemon juice along with a half gallon of water, as it is very effective for cleaning mirrors and glass. In addition, you can also use alcohol or witch hazel for mirrors and glass cleaning; and use old newspapers for wiping it down.

This is not actually a green idea, but you can make use of old newspapers; so, in fact, you can save on paper towels and still go green. Instead of newspapers, you can also use a clean rag or an old T-shirt or even a cloth diaper.

Cleaning Metal Items:

Many people make use of metal polishes for cleaning steel, chrome and brass and so on. Most of these metal polishes include ammonia and some acids. It is best to incorporate green methods for cleaning metals, rather than resorting to such harsh products. If you need to clean tarnished copper items or antique brass items, you can make them shine by creating a mix of salt and vinegar and adding some flour from the kitchen shelf.

Use equal parts of the three ingredients and create a paste. You can rub this paste on the item using a soft cloth; let it dry out for some time, say an hour or so. Use a soft cloth for wiping off the dried paste on the metal surface. Lemon is also a good substitute for cleaning metal pieces, such as copper or brass items. Cut the lemon and dip it in salt and then rub the item, using the salted lemon.

Later, you can wash and dry the metal item. Another alternative for cleaning tarnished metal items is to use undiluted vinegar and spray it on the piece. Apply some salt on the tarnished area and then wipe off with a cloth. Remove all the salt, as it will turn green if left on the item.

Decluttering:

One-way of keeping your home clean is to declutter it. When you clean up, you will probably be left behind, with many items that you don’t have any use for. There are many online communities where you can sell this stuff or where you can just give these away. These items could range from magazines to clothing to furniture or even kitchen gadgets and appliances.

This is a great way to declutter your home and also provide someone else with something that they need. You could also attempt a yard sale, instead of just dumping them into a landfill.
