The most memorable day of your life is approaching, your nerves might be getting the best of you, and all you want to do is just keep calm and think about the rest of your life spent with your loving spouse. But first you have to get through the wedding day, and hope that Murphy’s law won’t do it’s best to ruin everything.
If you have a wedding planner, all the better for you- you will have someone to hold your hand and take care of the small details as well as all the planning and bossing around, but some of your guests might cause problems too. A lot of engaged couples like to have young flower girls or ring bearers to make the atmosphere warmer and endearing, but what you might not have thought of is that this too is a liability on its own.
Nonetheless, if you do have a favorite niece or nephew, it doesn’t mean you should exclude them from your wedding. It simply means that you should think about additional potential problems that might occur.
Keep them Clean and Tidy
Just as much as you wouldn’t like having cake or wine stains on your dress, you should think about your little flower girl not having them as well. Kids can get naughty and careless, which is perfectly normal, but if you don’t want to stress about last minute outfit changes it is better to leave your flower girl in her play clothes rather than let her play in the formal dress all the time and risk it tearing up or having stains.
If your wedding ceremony is a bit later in the day, let the little one play with her friends in whatever she came in and a bit before the ceremony have her change, give her the beautiful flower girl bag and the pretty pastel flower wreath for her golden locks and you’ll be set in no time.
Don’t Interrupt Nap Time
Everyone knows that younger kids have a specific rhythm by which they function and taking them out of it might not be the best idea. If your wedding is in the morning or early afternoon, you most probably won’t have any issues, but if you’re gearing towards the late afternoon, you might be in for a ride when it comes to your flower girls and ring bearers.
Kids can get cranky, upset and very difficult to work with if they haven’t had sufficient sleep. A good thing to do in this case might be to give them a treat like some biscuits or gummy bears – the sugar will give them the necessary dose of energy they are lacking. Just make sure you don’t go overboard with the sugar- the parents will not love you for it.
Let them Join the Pre-party
You surely remember a time when you were younger and wanted to feel cool and always hang out with the older crowd. Well your flower girl probably feels the same way, and it will mean the world to her if you invite her to join in while you are dressing up, doing you hair and make up and nails.
Try asking her for advice on your manicure color, she will like feeling like her opinion matters and you are actually seeking her opinion. It could make her take the whole event more seriously and might do you better in the long run as well.
You can also make her feel more included in the decision making process even before the big event. Sit her down and talk about what kind of a hairstyle would be her first choice, browse online for formal dresses to see if one catches her eye, that way you’ll not only be a strong support, but also a friend that lets her choose her way. Remember, she will have her own wedding one day and she will remember your sympathy and support when she needs them the most.
