Fence repair may seem like a difficult task, but with a few tools from the garage or the shed, we should be able to complete the task well. However, we should know where to start. First of all, it is important to assess the damage to determine the extent of the project. We should know whether only a few planks have broken or the post have rotten.

We shouldn’t hesitate with this task. Although the task could be moderately difficult, completing the entire task should take only an hour or two to complete. In the end, our fence will become as good as new.

How To Rebuild Concrete Blocks Of Your Fence

Things that we need prepare are level, pry bar, shovel, dozens of wood screws, a bag of concrete mix, replacement posts, a bag of gravel, circular saw, hand saw and auger. Often, fence posts are simply set into the ground, using packed dirt and gravel or concrete mix.

If there’s no concrete at the ground level, then probably it is buried a few inches under the surface. We should take the shovel and dig down until we hit the concrete. Well-built fence posts should be set in concrete and if there’s no concrete, we should consider rebuilding the whole fence network. There are different ways to remove an existing post. Some people simply use a chisel and hamme rto break the concrete and make new one later.

This technique could work, but may also take a lot of effort. Making a new concrete foundation could be rather time consuming and more expensive. However, this is a better way to keep our fence network well designed.

Another way to remove the post is to use a skinny-bladed shovel to dig out the dirt to expose the sides of the concrete foundation. Once the block is set loose, we can use a pry bar to move it and remove it from the ground. This may seem like a hard work, but probably better than smashing the block to bits.

After the hole is properly cleaned of any remains of concrete and other things, we could get the replacement post and put it at the center of the hole. We may ask a helper to hold the post and make sure it lines up properly with the old posts. Once we are sure that it is in a proper position, we can pour the dry concrete mix into the hole. Make sure to wear a masker and eye protection, so we won’t inhale the dust. Then grab the garden hose and pour enough water into the hole.

The water should bubble once it seeps into the bottom of the hole. We could continue to add more water until it pools slightly. The excess water should be absorbed to the bottom. Take a piece of wood to poke the concrete mixture to make sure the water flows down to the bottom. If the water pools too long, the wet mixture will take much longer to set.
