Google Analytics is the main tool used for web analytics. The best experts in web analytics are able to use the software to improve website performance, identify possible problems, track sales activity and increase website visibility. But non-experts can gain just as much from using Google Analytics. It is high time you learned how to make the best use of statistics provided by Google Analytics. Start from learning the following tricks:

How To Use Google Analytics To Improve Your Magento Store

Understanding and attracting visitors

Most beginners and amateur users of Google Analytics do not realize the real potential of this tool. They use it only to display a single, default view for one property, forgetting that Google Analytics allows them to display views for multiple properties and segregate the data by adding a few filters. How does it work? When you are creating a new view in Google Analytics, go to the Admin tab and add a new property, if you want to see the statistics for more than one site.

From the Admin tab you can also access View settings and go to Filters. This is the tab, where you can create Custom filters, for example, you can choose a combination of filters to display statistics only for returning visitors or you can set your filters to show only visitors redirected from your social media sites. This way you can easily check the effectiveness of your social media promotion or how attractive your Magento store is to customers.

Remember, though, about one rule:

If you apply multiple filters to create one view, you have to consider the chronological order of the filters. What does it mean? The filtering is performed in stages, which correspond with the order of the chosen filters from the first to the last. The second filter you have chosen is applied to the results of the first filtering; the third filter is applied to the results of the second filtering and so on.

Therefore, start with the most general filter and then apply the more specific ones to achieve accurate results.

Improving site speed

Google Analytics can be also used to measure page load time, redirection time, server connection or server response time and analyze other features, which can affect the site speed. To create a Site Speed Overview, go to the Behavior tab and select Site Speed.

One of the best features of Google Analytics is the Speed Suggestion section, which analyzes the performance of all your pages and provides you with suggestions regarding the pages, which need speeding up the most (Google Analytics assumes the rule that the most popular pages of your online store require faster loading than the less popular ones) and the tips you can use to improve page load time.

Remember, though, that to speed up your Magento store you might need something more than just a few tips from Google Analytics. If your statistics are far from perfect and if you see no effects of applying the site speed suggestions, call Magento custom development company and ask for a thorough analysis of your site speed to solve all problems with the performance of your online store.
