  • Dog Training Techniques

There are various techniques based upon the relationship between response and stimulus. For effective and quick training one can go for st. Petersburg dog training also.

  1. Classical Conditioning

It is a type of associative learning. In this traditional technique, a biologically potent stimulus is paired with an antecedent neutral stimulus – the foundational example of this is the experiments conducted by Ivan Pavlov, wherein he would ring a bell, and the dogs would salivate at the ring of the bell, and not on seeing food itself. It is also similar to when the dogs would start salivating upon seeing a person who normally feeds them, rather than the food. Again, classical conditioning works on the basis that the dogs respond to the neutral stimulus, and not to the biologically potent stimulus such as food, or the place of excreting as opposed to the act of excreting.

  1. Non-associative Learning

This learning mode is different than the classical one, here the associations between a previously present stimulus and other stimulus are not taken into account as a reward or punishment. It is the habituation wherein the dog develops the habit of responding only to meaningful stimuli, an example being, if doorbell rings, and there are no visitors, and if the doorbell still rings, the dog is eventually going to stop excitedly barking at the door.

  1. Operant Conditioning

This kind of conditioning develops a kind of learning which is motivated by outcomes – positives and negatives. The positive outcomes will enable the dogs to strengthen behavioral patterns to enjoy the positive outcome and vice versa, to avoid the negative outcomes. This kind of training can be seen in army dogs. The main aim is that this positive reinforcement would satisfy a physiological or psychological need.

  1. Observational Learning

This kind of learning involves modeling the behavioral patterns of another model animal. This type of learning can be observed in larger groups of dogs. This sheds light on the social nature of a dog, example when pups are exposed to seeing their mothers detect narcotics, the pups take in that information and try to map it exactly.

It is also important to know some of the methods which are popular among the trainers as well as dog owners that can help them to get this loyal animal perfectly trained for various tasks. However, the application of method varies from trainer to trainer and even dog to dog as well as the breeds.
