Have you ever heard of high power vehicles that run on the road, and yet cause no pollution to the surrounding environment? We are of course talking about the same thing again here, and the obvious answer is catalytic converter advertised as such by Catalytic Exhaust. Catalytic Exhaust Products, also better known as CEP has a noble aim of manufacturing pollution free, emission control products which complete the line for diesel, gasoline and engines fueled by propane. These products are exclusively for off-highway vehicles. Now before moving any further on this particular topic, it becomes very essential to know in detail about the term ‘off-highway’.
These vehicles run only on national highways and not on public roads or streets, that is, never inside cities. Cranes are the ones which dominate this category; though we know that cranes do a lot of heavy work, they never interfere with the ecosystem by emitting harmful and poisonous gases into the atmosphere. They are like down to earth people; they toil and work hard but never cause any trouble to the surroundings. One other surprising thing about these products is that, they not only avoid causing pollution, they also help in the reduction of pollution.
Reactions and Possibilities
This is possible through the innate quality of these converters from which they get their name of so called catalytic converters. They convert catalysts in the atmosphere with the help of a control device which helps in converting toxic pollutants from the exhaust gases emitted by various other vehicles, factories and home chimneys, to less poisonous pollutants. Though it is an indirect process, it does have a very significant impact on the atmosphere. One might wonder the role of catalyst here; the catalyst is the main element responsible for the redox reaction. Any redox reaction basically reduces the presence of carbon dioxide, and hence the term ‘redox‘. Carbon dioxide content is reduced by either removing the excess carbon or adding oxygen.
It is so refreshing to hear such an eco-friendly man made machinery. But, it also requires lot of approvals at many levels through applications and regulations. CAL / OSHA are responsible for approving this machinery on a health and safety perspective; while CARB check the level of carbon or carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere. MSHA also plays an important role here because they act on the most basic level, that is, mining. Of course, mining is where this machinery will be used a lot.
Thus, the state of California operates such an amazing and effective safety and health program with the help of various approval boards and members. This has been going on since 1973 and could only have been possible through their motto: “to promote welfare and ecological resources by protecting one’s health; thereby effectively reducing air pollutants”. The same program has also been migrated to and adopted by MOL (Canada), where they have taken it upon themselves to create an advanced, safe and harmonious workplace. Such practices are essential in today’s world and each and every organization could do with taking a leaf out of their book!
