Many experienced SEO professionals have been dutifully exchanging links with other professionals and webmasters. However, we could find that over time, this technique yields less and less results. Although, there are hundreds of inbound links, they may have little effects on our overall rankings. Conventional reciprocating techniques used to boost pagerank could benefit very little. Unfortunately, many of us still cling to the belief that such a method could work well. They may waste valuable time in such a fruitless enterprise.

Buy Social Signals  are becoming more and more important to Google; it’s paying more attention to share your links and rewarding sites with large social signals in your SEO campaign.

It is logical that links can be used to indicate the perceived value of our websites and Google rewards us with higher search engine ranks. On the other hand, there existence of a reciprocal link would negate such a benefit. Reciprocation clearly indicates that two website owners have located one another and struck a deal to exchange links on their pages. This clearly violates Google’s carefully designed rules about website authority. It is a fact that Google has been aware of such a technique and its engineers have been working to prevent further escalations. It is simply a matter of changing the algorithm to render link exchanges ineffective.

Why We Shouldn’t Use Reciprocal Linking Techniques

It appears that link exchange method is already on its deathbed, because Google offer little reward for it. In fact, we could see that many websites that are placed on higher search rankings typically don’t have reciprocal links in their pages. Also, pages with such a link may not go higher than PR 1 score. The main determinant for Google is to ensure that webpages have well-thought, useful and original content.

Excessive content duplication is now penalized and this includes links mentioned in them. For this reason, we should make sure that our links should be placed only in original content. There are cases where people put duplicated content on hundreds of webpages and this will not result in something good.

Reciprocal linking is clearly not worth the time and it is in fact could hurt our page rank and search results. If other webmasters approach us to perform reciprocal linking, we may need to politely decline. We should explain that this method no longer does much for our rankings. So what we should do?

Often the best solution is the simplest one. Instead of working hard on bringing reciprocal links, we should devote our effort and time for writing interesting articles about specific topics. It is also possible to write interesting news releases about our website and publish them for people who look for such information. Conceptually, solid content production and publication strategy could deliver a steady stream of backlinks from various sources that need to refer to our information. This will be rated very highly by Google, because that is what search engines are all about, providing authority websites with interesting content. Over time, we could immense effects on our rankings.  Honestly, this step can be quite time consuming and complex that typical link exchanges, but it only takes months of good content production to get initial positive result.
